Getting started with Payment Plans for Shopify

Payment Plans lets you offer pay-over-time directly through Shopify Payments — no Klarna, no Afterpay, and no provider taking a cut. You get paid as the installments come in, and orders stay on a fulfillment hold until the balance is cleared, so nothing ships before it's fully paid.

How it works

  1. Create a plan. Choose how often cards are charged (daily, weekly, or monthly) and the minimum and maximum number of installments a customer can pick between.
  2. Customers check out as normal. Their card is securely vaulted by Shopify and the order is marked partially paid.
  3. We charge automatically. Each installment is collected on schedule, with automatic recovery if a charge fails.
  4. The order ships once it's paid. When the final installment clears, the fulfillment hold is released.

What's included

  • Deposits and per-plan discounts
  • Automatic payment recovery for failed charges
  • Configurable refund and cancellation rules
  • Reporting on upcoming and collected payments
